Hypnotherapy is a natural and gentle therapy that can help you to achieve positive change. Whether you are looking for help with self esteem, weight loss, phobias, trauma, stopping smoking, or any other feelings or behaviour about which you have concerns, hypnotherapy can help you to achieve the positive change you seek. The aim of this site is to give you a little information about hypnosis, and how it may help you. If you would like further information, or wish to talk to me personally, please feel free to contact me.
Many people's understanding (or misunderstanding) of hypnosis comes from stage shows or TV programmes. They may have seen one themselves, or gained an impression of hypnosis from comments or jokes they’ve heard. This builds on the mystery and myths that have surrounded hypnosis for many years, so that, sadly, hypnotherapy can be overlooked as a viable treatment option. In reality, therapeutic hypnosis is a very natural, comfortable and relaxed state, which is often described as a state of altered or heightened awareness. It is not sleep, and most people are fully aware of everything, finding it an enjoyable and empowering experience. It should never involve anything that you feel is inappropriate, and even in trance, you will not do or say anything that is not natural or comfortable. You are always able to bring yourself out of trance or reject any suggestion, which is one reason why hypnotherapy can only be successful if you really want it to work. Most people find hypnosis a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable state.
Hypno-psychotherapy is the use of this altered state to concentrate, and utilise, the untapped resources of the subconscious to help you to achieve the positive beneficial changes you are seeking. Often, there is logic and conscious understanding of the need to change, and the benefits that will result. However, the unconscious seems to ignore this understanding and continue to resist change. The unconscious mind is miraculous, and when in a receptive state, can process and evaluate information very rapidly, then draw conclusions which alter behaviour instantly. This is often seen happening in a negative way, when an apparently uncontrollable fear is developed following a trauma. This ability for dramatic change can also naturally create positive change, which is the aim of hypno-psychotherapy. The result is that, very often, change occurs much faster than with some other therapies, and, of course, without the side effects of drugs. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why hypnosis is viewed with some suspicion, the ‘magic’ being attributed to hypnosis, rather than the power of the mind.
Who can benefit from Hypnotherapy?
Almost everyone who is looking for change! Being completely natural, safe, and without side effects, hypnotherapy is helpful in a wide range of conditions. If you have a desire to change, hypnotherapy can help. As hypnotherapy will not make anyone do anything they don’t wish to, the desire to change is the key.
It is important to find a therapist with who you can feel comfortable, and I recommend that before choosing a therapist, you have a chat with them. I am more than happy to talk on the phone to answer any questions you may have, which also gives you the opportunity to discover if you will be able to feel comfortable with me. This is useful if you have any doubts, as I never pressure anyone into booking an appointment, and it is a safe and comfortable way to consider new possibilities without commitment.
What sort of problems can be helped by hypnotherapy?
The following list contains some of the more common problems with which I am asked to assist. The list is by no means all that can be helped, so if you have a problem that is not listed, do not assume that it is unsuitable for treatment. Please contact me to enquire how I may be able to help.
